Mario's Galactic Adventure Preview Arrives, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games
In the vein of the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The feature will see the return of the initial voice actors, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.
The company has a set of three fresh titles officially announced for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
