From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
